2020 Greene County High School graduate Carter Morton from Jefferson is spending a part of his break from the University of Northern Iowa at home for the Holidays. Fresh off winning the Heptathlon Dec. 13-14 in Ames at the Iowa State University indoor track & field Holiday Invitational, the former Missouri Valley Conference and Drake Relays champion in the multi-events, spoke with Raccoon Valley Radio.
The heptathlete/decathlete has clear goals when it comes to his track & field future. “My goal this year is to go to Nationals and I put up a pretty good mark with the Iowa State score (in the Heptathlon). Hopefully, fingers crossed, that will get into it, but I also have another shot or two to get a higher score at Nebraska or possibly the Conference meet.”
Morton said he’s going to redshirt (compete unattached) for the upcoming outdoor season, then I’m going to come back next year for a full sixth year, so my lifetime goal is to make the Olympics, but we’ll see how that goes.”
Carter Morton will be one of the guests on the PM Sports Magazine, KG98 Edition at 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 30. He’s the son of Chad and Deb Morton of Jefferson.
