The Iowa Department of Natural Resources First Day Hike program will continue to be observed at Springbrook State Park this year, with a slight difference.

DNR Interpretive Naturalist and Educator Anne Riordan will be unable to lead the hike as she has in the past, so this year she says that the hike will be self guided for the first time since the First Day Hike was begun. She mentions that the suggested route is the trail around the lake, which is 1.37 miles, but that there are opportunities to take side trails for a longer hike with different views. Those interested in participating in the hike may do so at any point during the day, allowing for solo or small group hikes, or large group hikes with some coordination between hikers on when to start.
