An extended family member of the people that died from a two vehicle crash near Perry is seeking monetary assistance.

The Iowa State Patrol reported that a crash occurred around 11:45am this past Monday, that killed 39-year-old Javier Hernandez and his mother, 62-year-old Amelia Huaracha de Hernandez. Silvia Herrera, who is the sister-in-law to Javier, and daughter-in-law to Amelia, began a GoFundMe page in order to raise money for the family.

According to Herrera, Javier graduated from Perry High School in 2004, and went on to own a construction company, Javier’s Construction, as well as being a volunteer firefighter. Javier and Amelia died after their 2005 Chevrolet Colorado collided with a 2022 Volkswagen Taos, driven by 50-year-old Reid Schaffer, of Perry, who didn’t yield at the right of way at the intersection near G Avenue. The investigation is ongoing with the Iowa State Patrol. Javier was the father to three daughters of ages 16, 11, and nine. To access the GoFundMe account, click here.
