A man and woman from Dexter were taken into custody on Friday for allegedly displaying a firearm.

According to court documents, 32-year-old Taija Carter and her husband, 42-year-old Christopher Barth, of Dexter, were stopped by the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office around 2:05pm on Friday at a Casey’s General Store on State Street in Dexter after reports of a firearm being waived. Court documents show that Carter claimed to the deputies that a vehicle in front of them brake checked them, and as she was going around them, the driver flipped her off, but she initially denied anything relating to the firearm. Carter denied deputies searching her vehicle, but discovered that Barth was a felon.

The criminal complaint shows Carter was then detained and around 4:30pm, she admitted that her husband did brandish a weapon that was located under the driver’s seat as they passed the other vehicle. Carter then was arrested and charged with a Class D Felony for aiding and abetting a felon and an aggravated misdemeanor for assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, while Barth was charged with a Class D Felony for control of a firearm by a felon and an aggravated misdemeanor for assault while displaying a dangerous weapon. Carter and Barth were booked and are being held in the Dallas County Jail. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
