A Friday evening fire at a commercial business in Greenfield is still being investigated.
Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Jeremy Cooper says that emergency services were dispatched around 4pm on December 27th to G&H Motorfreight in Greenfield, and crews from multiple fire departments fought the blaze until after midnight. According to the Greenfield Volunteer Fire Department, they have been intermittently fighting hotspot flare ups since, trying to make sure that the fire doesn’t come back.
Cooper mentions that the five employees of G&H Motorfreight were still in the building at the time the fire was reported, with one hearing what sounded like an explosion. Cooper says that the employee stepped out of the office area to investigate, and discovered the flames. He reveals that all employees evacuated safely before calling 911. Cooper explains that the fire started in the southeast corner of the building. He adds that two semi trucks had been parked near that area 30-40 minutes prior to the blaze, but it is unsure if they were involved as far as the cause.
According to GVFD, they are waiting for G&H Motorfreight’s insurance company to come and perform their investigation, at which time they will be able to bring in equipment to disperse the piles of debris that are still burning. Cooper says that the building has been deemed a total loss. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring more information as it becomes official.
