The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday for the final time in 2024.

The meeting started with a swearing-in ceremony for the elected county officials from this past November General Election. Those individuals include Greene County Auditor Billie Jo Hoskins, Greene County Supervisors John Muir and Joe Gannon and Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams. Then, the Board heard additional 2026 funding requests from Greene County Public Health for $300,000, the Greene County Libraries Association asked for an eight percent increase that includes the overall budget, along with $1,000 for each county library and $10,000 for cooperative funding; and finally, the Iowa Department of Human Services requested $3,164. The Board took no action following each request, as they will discuss those during budgetary meetings.

The Board also approved a memorandum of understanding between the Supervisors and the Greene County Auditor’s Office as a contractual agreement to obligate the just under $1.8 million of remaining funds from the American Rescue Plan Act and state recovery funds to a project. County Attorney Thomas Laehn said that even though the Board previously passed a resolution designating how the funds would be used, he felt that was bad advice after getting additional information from the federal government. He noted that this step needed to happen by the end of the 2024 calendar year in order for the Board to not lose out on the remaining ARPA funds.

Finally, the Board approved a retirement resolution for Supervisor Mick Burkett for his 12 years of service to the county, which includes two, four-year terms as a County Supervisor.
