South Hamilton defeated Perry 39-29 Monday night in Heart of Iowa girl’s basketball. The win snapped a four game losing skid for the Hawks.
On a night in which shots simply weren’t falling for either team, South Hamilton used a decisive 16-8 run midway through the second quarter to create a little separation and build a 26-12 halftime lead. Perry battled back in the third quarter with key 3-point buckets from both Taryn Nehring and Karagyn Whelchel. Lilly Myers driving layup with under two minutes to go in the third quarter cut the deficit down to 6, but that would be as close as Perry could muster.
Kaylen Trask led the South Hamilton offense with 20 points, including 7 in the fourth quarter. Freshman Emma Lammers added 10 points off the bench.
Perry was led by Myers with 10 points and Nehring scored 8.
The Jayettes fall to 3-8, 1-6 and will host Grandview Christian Friday night.
