District 12 Senator Amy Sinclair
With the first week of the 2025 Legislative Session having passed in Iowa, one senator looks back on the 2024 session.
Senator for District 12 Amy Sinclair says that there are a few things she was happy to see pass last session, including the fast tracking done to get income tax cut to 3.8 percent starting January 1st of this year, instead of January 1, 2026. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio about another area that she’s happy they were able to improve.
“I was also pleased with the extension of postpartum care for the neediest of moms here in the state of Iowa. And that waiver was approved through the federal folks so that women in low income categories can still receive postpartum care for up to a year post having their child.”
Sinclair mentions that this is important because it keeps the mothers and babies healthy, and reduces stress on the state’s social safety network. She explains that there are a few things she wished she could have seen passed in the 2024 Legislative Session, including a bill she had introduced that would have made it easier to enforce laws in place against drivers camping in the left lane on multi-lane highways, adding that while it is already currently illegal to stay in the fast lane, it is hard to enforce the traffic rules on those drivers.
