The AC/GC Chargers basketball teams took down the CAM Cougars last night.

The girls game was a good one from the Chargers, as the team jumped to a quick 18-5 lead at the end of the first. A 15-7 showing in the second quarter only extended that lead, as AC/GC went into the halftime break up 33-12. The Chargers scored 10 points in each of the following quarters, while holding the Cougars to seven and four points per quarter respectively, and ended the game with the 53-23 victory.

The Crafty’s Coffee and Gifts Player of the Game went to two individuals, with Karli Kautzky shining in the first half with 11 of the team’s points, and Camdyn Richter finishing the game with a double double. The Dub P Apparel Elite Fit Play of the Game went to a beautiful shot from Kautzky down low coming off a spin move, with a made shot from Shay Lemke after reaching around two defenders also considered for the nomination.

The boys game was eerily similar to the last two games they played, coming down to the final seconds before a winner was decided. The Chargers had an early lead, that quickly turned into a back and forth scoring shootout that ended the first quarter in an 18 point tie from the two teams. AC/GC was outscored 18-9 in the second quarter though, and went into halftime down 36-27. A 9-6 showing in the third quarter allowed the Chargers to close the gap, heading into the fourth quarter down 42-36. The fourth was a big one from both teams, as AC/GC outscored CAM 28-22 to tie things up at 64 to end regulation. In overtime, the Chargers outscored the Cougars 7-5 to end the game with a 71-69 victory.

The Crafty’s Coffee and Gifts Player of the Game went to Payton Policky, who after pulling down 24 rebounds against Earlham last week had an unconfirmed 22 rebounds against the Cougars, with Jathan South also considered for the accolade for leading the Chargers in scoring. The Dub P Apparel Elite Fit Play of the Game comes from the final points scored by the Chargers in regulation, which occurred when Noah Kading nailed a three pointer with less than ten seconds to go to tie the game and force overtime.

The Chargers return to action tonight, with the 11-1 girls facing the 1-12 Ogden Bulldogs, and the Class 1A 5th Ranked 10-1 Chargers boys taking on a 5-7 Bulldogs team, with the doubleheader to be played on the road. Tipoff for the girls game is at 6pm, with the boys to follow at 7:30pm. The Raccoon Valley Radio Sports Network will begin pregame coverage of the games half an hour before the girls game begins, with coverage to be broadcast on the KKRF2 online live stream.
