An organization in Perry is recognizing a first responder and award nominations will close soon.
The Perry Rotary Club is currently taking applications for the 2024 Civil Servant of the Year award. According to Member Randy McCaulley, the Rotary Club began giving out a teacher of the year award, then following discussion amongst the members, they decided on honoring a civil servant in the mid-2000s. McCaulley names eligible candidates that can be nominated including law enforcement agencies, fire departments, ambulance and emergency services, health care, human or community services, and others. He believes that giving out the award is a great way to celebrate a hard working individual.
“I think it’s a very nice honor for somebody to receive, and is a recognition of the efforts that so many people make each and every day in our community. The unsung heroes that are in our community, and we’d like to just bring that to the attention. So, it’s a way of showing appreciation for what they do.”
McCaulley details that nomination forms can be obtained at the Perry Public Library, 1101 Willis Avenue, or the McCreary Community Building, 1800 Pattee Street, and must be turned in at either location by 4pm on Friday, January 31st. He adds that Rotary President Kevin Vidergar will contact the winning individual and that they will be honored at a future Perry City Council meeting.
