The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Basketball teams took care of business Friday night against Winterset.

The ADM girls beat Winterset 53-47, while the boys won 57-49. In the girls game, the first quarter saw the Tigers get out to a 10-2 start, but the Huskies closed the gap 10-7 at the end of one. ADM grew the lead to 12 points in the second before Winterset swung back and trailed 26-19 at the half. The Tigers woke the offense up in the third quarter as they captured another 16 points to extend the lead 42-27 going into the fourth quarter. In the final frame, the Huskies tightened the game up by starting the quarter on an 11-0 run to cut the deficit to four, but the Tigers outlasted them thanks to late free throws from sophomore Alexis Maxwell, who finished nine for nine at the line, with ADM winning 53-47.

Winterset was led by sophomore MaKenna Olson, who had 14 points, sophomore Natalie Smith with 11, and senior Brynn Acton also had 11 points. For the Tigers, Maxwell was the high player with 14 points, followed by freshman Ella Subbert, who had 11, and senior Kelli Storck finished with nine points. Huskies fall to 6-9 overall (3-6 inside the Raccoon River Conference), while the Tigers improve to 9-6 overall (6-4 RRC).

In the boys game, the matchup with was closer than the first time around where ADM won 71-42. The Tigers led 11-9 after the first quarter, as they extended the halftime lead 30-20. Winterset made a couple of runs in the second half, but couldn’t get closer than six points, as they fell 57-49.

The Tigers were charged by junior Hudson Lorensen, who had 22 points, then it was junior Trey Bryte with 16, and junior Hudson Shull’s 12 points. On the Huskies side, senior Hank Wilmes was the high man with 14 points, followed by junior Reed Smith’s 13, and junior Jace Bellamy contributing with seven points. Winterset drops to 2-13 on the season (2-8 RRC), as ADM goes to 10-3 (8-2 RRC).

The Huskies will be home to North Polk on Tuesday, and the Tigers will welcome Carroll into Adel Monday night with the broadcast on K107.9 KKRF, starting at 5:45pm.
