
A short-handed Greene County high school wrestling team placed sixth among eight Heart of Iowa Activities Conference squads on Friday night in Story City at the league’s tournament. Coach Kirk Davis was without two-time State qualifier Brent Dennhardt due to illness. Marcus Ball missed the action because of injury, and Degan Miller, a State qualifier last season, became ill during the tournament and had to medically forfeit, finishing in sixth place.
Winning conference titles for the Rams were sophomore Jaron Jacobs at 113 lbs. and senior Crew Conner at 144. Jacobs went 2-0 with a 23 second fall and a 12-2 major decision as he improved to 26-7 on the season. Conner is now 22-10 after posting two fall, one in 55 seconds and the other in 3:09.
Brennan Jacobs is 25-6 and he lost by 23-7 technical fall in West Marshall’s Urijah Courter, now 27-0 and the top ranked wrestler at 106 in Class 2A. Winters is 25-6 after dropping an 8-5 finals decision to Jon Gonzalez of WM, who has a 26-2 mark and is ranked third in the 120 lbs. weight class.
Sophomore Roman Sebourn was the only other Ram to take part. He was fifth at 138 lbs.
WM won the team title with 234 points, followed by Roland-Story 199, Nevada 135, PCM (Monroe) 126.5, Perry 110.5, Greene County 92.5, Saydel (Des Moines) 69.5, and South Hamilton (Jewell) 62.
