
For the second time in eight days the Greene County and PCM basketball teams met in a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference girl/boy doubleheader. The Mustangs swept the Rams in Jefferson on Jan. 16 in a makeup twin bill, and last night they met again, this time in Monroe. The games were heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with the Class 3A number 10 ranked Mustangs winning the girls’ game, 68-14. The Mustangs were 82-63 winners in the boys’ contest.
Coach Tori Ogden’s girls’ team is 0-16 overall and 0-10 in the league while the Mustangs improved to 10-1 in the HOIAC and 14-2 overall. Only two Rams scored points with 10 from sophomore Makenna Ebersole and four for junior Kaycee Pittman. The Rams trailed 48-7 at intermission. PCM had 10 players score with 15 each from junior Tori Lindsey and freshman Abby Winters. Greene County had 37 turnovers including 24 in the first half.
The first time the boys’ met the Mustangs made 11 three-point baskets. They sank 10 of the long range shots last night, led by senior Gavin Van Gorp with five three-pointers and a 32 point night. Van Gorp was scorching hot to start with 19 first quarter points. Ram senior Isaac Carman entered the game averaging six points and shooting under 20% from three-point range. All Carman did was score a career best 22 points on a career high seven three-poin goals and one free throw.Junior Broc Stream had nine points for the Rams including a pair of three’s as Coach Chris Nelson’s team hit nine three-pointers and scored more than 23 points above their game average coming in.
Next for the Rams is a girl/boy doubleheader in Jefferson with the Nevada Cubs on Jan. 28. Like last night, the Tuesday night games will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
