Carter Morton of Jefferson, a 2020 Greene County graduate and U. of Northern Iowa track & field standout, was in action on Friday and Saturday in Iowa City. The Panthers were indoors at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational hosted by the Iowa Hawkeyes in honor of a former Iowa coach.
Morton won the men’s high jump on Friday with a season best leap of 6′ 8-3/4″. He was scheduled for two events on Saturday, but did not run in the 4 x 400 meter relay due to the length of the pole vault. Morton was fourth in the pole vault at 16 feet, 3/4 of an inch, a personal best. Fifteen feet, seven inches was Morton’s previous PR.
Carter is the son of Chad and Deb Morton of Jefferson. He’s a heptathlete indoors and decathlete outdoors, but when meets like the one in Iowa City don’t offer the multi-events, he competes in one or more of the events that are included in the heptathlon and decathlon.
