The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Basketball teams started the week out by hosting the Carroll Tigers on Monday.

The girls lost a 55-54 heartbreaker, while the boys won comfortably 76-65. In the girls game, ADM got out to a 14-5 start before Carroll ended the first quarter on a 6-2 run to trail 16-11. The second quarter saw each team scored 11 points with ADM taking a 27-22 advantage into the halftime locker room. ADM and Carroll traded baskets in the third quarter with ADM clinging to a 43-37 lead heading into the fourth. In the final frame, Carroll rallied a furious comeback as they outscored ADM 18-12 and had go-ahead free throws by senior Katelyn Aden with five seconds left. With one last opportunity, ADM freshman Aubrey Noring drove the length of the floor to put up a layup at the buzzer, which was missed, giving Carroll the 55-54 win.

Carroll was led in scoring by Aden, who had 17 points, followed by senior Olivia Rowedder with 16, and junior Ali Kock, who had 11 points. For ADM, they had good balance between freshman Ella Subbert, who contributed with 11 points, as well as junior Ellis Smith’s 11, and senior Kelli Storck with 10 points. Carroll improves to 11-4 overall (6-4 inside the Raccoon River Conference), while ADM drops to 9-7 (6-5 RRC).

It was a tight contest in the boys game as teams would go back and forth with Carroll leading 21-17 after the first. Carroll kept that margin at halftime as they led 32-28, but ADM would flip the script in the third quarter, scoring 26 points to take a 54-48 advantage to the fourth quarter. The final eight minutes saw the teams continue to battle, but ADM ultimately came out with the win, 76-65.

Caroll’s junior Jared Mohr led the way with 18 points, and it was senior Noah Hinners with 10. ADM’s leader was junior Hudson Lorensen, who had 21 points, but it was a breakout game from freshman Walker Holmberg who came off the bench with 14 points, including three triples. Carroll falls to 5-8 overall (3-7 RRC), as ADM moves to 11-3 (9-2 RRC).

Carroll will return home today to host Boone, while ADM will travel to Bondurant-Farrar to face off against the Bluejays. Raccoon Valley Radio will carry the broadcast on K107.9 KKRF with girls set to begin at 6pm.
