The Greene County Board of Supervisors met on Monday in regular session.

During reports, County Attorney Thomas Laehn mentioned a couple of things. He is being shadowed by a Paton-Churdan student for a couple of weeks to learn about being a prosecuting lawyer.

Laehn also reported that there was a settlement on the assessed property value of the Wild Rose Casino and Resort in Jefferson land ahead of the hearing with the Iowa Property Assessment Appeal Board (PAAB). He told the Board that the Greene County Assessor’s Office had the property valued over $20 million and Wild Rose believed the valuation to be $15.5 million. He pointed out that a recent case that involved another Wild Rose Casino property in Clinton County had won its PAAB hearing against the county. Laehn thought a settlement was the better route for the county, and that amount was over $18 million, and through 2026 assessment year, there was a set amount agreement reached.

Next, the Board approved the semi-annual report for the substance abuse prevention program with New Opportunities and the county employee wage publication for the 2024 calendar year. They also heard additional county budgets for the 2026 fiscal year, including the County Treasurer, Board of Supervisors and Clerk of Court. No action was taken following the budget presentations.
