The AC/GC Chargers put on a clinic in Tuesday’s victory against the Ogden Bulldogs.

In the girls game, things got started fast as Shay Lemke opened up the game with a wide open three pointer, and the Chargers finished the first quarter with the 31-0 lead. The gap only grew in the second quarter, as the team scored in the double digits once again, going into halftime up 50-4. The third quarter kept things the same, and the Chargers moved on to a 64-6 lead, and in the fourth quarter, the junior varsity squad put up another 14 points, and finished the game with the AC/GC 78-14 victory.

There were two nominations for both postgame awards on the night. The Dub P Apparel Elite Fit Play of the Game for the starting line up was a drive and layup from Shay Lemke, who went in and added a little extra on the english roll to secure the score, and for the junior varsity line up, Olivia Mahaffey was able to get a steal and drive down to the other end for a score. The Crafty’s Coffee and Gifts Players of the game were Becca Littler and Nora Langgaard, with Littler knocking down several threes and securing multiple rebounds and steals, while Langgaard was also able to score well and haul down some boards. Littler shared what it’s like being able to have the entire team play on the night.

“I think it just really shows our depth. I think that it’s good that we’re able to run offense throughout our whole team on the court and that we can move the ball around and try to get a good shot every time, which I believe we ran really good offense tonight. And so yeah, it’s just good and fun to know that we can run those plays and be able to capitalize off of them and get good shots and everyone can score.”

Langgaard mentioned what she thought went well for the team.

“I think we did a really good job on our defense in stopping their drives and we realized how they were scoring the points and what to do to stop them. I think that our run game was really good too and our passing definitely helped us in the game.”

In the boys game, there was an early lead established as the Chargers went up 25-12 in the first quarter. They extended the lead in the second quarter, going into halftime up 45-28. Coming back from the break, both teams scored well, and the Chargers maintained the lead with a score of 64-49. The final quarter saw the Bulldogs make a bit of a comeback though, but AC/GC secured the 76-65 victory.

The Dub P Apparel Elite Fit Play of the game had several nominations, but the steal by Joe Crawford who then heaved the ball up the court to the open and waiting Jathan South for the slam dunk was the one ultimately taking the spot. The Crafty’s Coffee and Gifts Player of the Game saw two nominations as well, with Mason Wahl scoring and playing well inside, while Crawford shot lights out from the exterior for the team. Wahl shared his thoughts on what practice today will look like as they prepare for tomorrow’s game.

“I think defense especially was lackluster tonight, so I think we’re going to really hit that hard to get after it on Thursday against I-35.”

This was a sentiment shared by Head Coach Lance Kading. The Chargers return to action tomorrow as they host the Interstate 35 Roadrunners.
