With the 48th Annual Bike Ride to Rippey happening on Saturday, there will be lots of food choices and a fun atmosphere in Greene County’s smallest incorporated town.

Rippey Mayor Dan Brubaker says there will be a beer truck, The Thirsty Pig, with a deejay providing musical entertainment on Main Street, along with a taco truck and hotdogs to be served near the intersection of 3rd and Main Streets. Chelsi Lawrence says the First United Methodist Church is partnering with the Rippey Baseball Commission and will serve its baked potato bar, along with chili, pies and dessert bars from 11-2pm at the church. She adds that the proceeds from the fundraiser will be split between the two entities. Kevin Hick with the Rippey Baseball Commission says they used their money to help fund three projects last year at Walt Anderson Field, including a new scoreboard, as well as renovating the pitchers mound and home plate area, and a storage shed for supplies. 

Nancy Hanaman, with the Rippey Lions Club, says they will be serving their famous roast beef sundaes starting at 10am on the west side of the library/community room, along with dessert bars, cookies and beverages, while supplies last with prices for each item. She adds that they raised $2,032 last year and those funds were used on a variety of projects, including Lions Iowa Kid Sight, Lions Leader Dogs for sight impaired, Lions Club disaster relief for Spain, local community needs, Rippey Library, Rippey United Methodist Church educational scholarship for local student, Midwest Mission, Greene County Christian Action Resource Center and other needs.

Bicyclists will start in the downtown area of Perry at 10am, with cyclists to travel up to Rippey, before heading back to Perry throughout the day. Motorists are reminded to be aware of increased bicycle traffic on that day.
