When Brent Dennhardt had his hand raised for the 100th time as a high school wrestler, it culminated a day of domination for the Greene County senior. The location was the ACGC Charger Invitational in Guthrie Center and not only did he win the 157 lbs. weight class, but seeded second among the 20 wrestlers at that weight, he dominated by going 5-0 with three falls and two technical falls. Now 19-2 this season after missing significant time due to injury and illness, his career mark is 100-15, Dennhardt’s career winning percentage of 87% is topped by only a handful of Rams in the 60 year history of high school wrestling based in Jefferson.

On paper, the title match between the Ram and Pleasantville sophomore Zane Mullenix, ranked third in Class 1A and the eighth ranked 2A wrestler in Dennhardt, looked to be a tournament highlight. Mullenix was 42-1 entering the match and after two very good, but unsuccessful takedown attempts by Mullenix, it was all Dennhardt by a 16-0 score.

He’ll be recognized for the 100 victories in the next Greene County competition on Feb. 11 in Jefferson vs. Webster City and Woodward-Granger. Those meets will end the dual meet season and after that, all that will remain for the Rams is the postseason. Greene County will go to Humboldt on Saturday, Feb. 15 for a 2A District tournament. The State Tournament is Feb. 19-22 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
