A new business in downtown Jefferson recently received a grant from Jefferson Matters.
Highland Medical Group is located on the north side of the square and the company is a recipient of a $5,000 Jefferson Wants You Incentive Fund. Co-Owner David Palmer says Highland Medical Group is a contracted nursing company that sends out nurses to mostly Critical Access Hospitals across Iowa. What started literally in the Palmer’s home in 2017 with his wife Katie, David shared that the two decided they needed their own brick and mortar building to run their business of between 100 and 125 employees.
David commented that they chose Jefferson as their main location because of all the progress and development the community was making and it had the amenities their employees would need when they would come to town to either stay overnight or for other reasons.
Jefferson Wants You Incentive Fund is a program for new businesses to help offset expenses or for individuals that work remotely to receive a one-year membership for free to Gravitate Coworking. The funding for the initiative came from a Rural Return Grant as part of the Empower Rural Iowa Initiative. Additional funding also came from several local utilities, financial institutions and a Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation grant.
