Greene County and Paton-Churdan High School Speech Teams are competing at the Iowa High School Speech Association State Large Group Contest today.
Greene County Speech Coach Kelley Gray says Choral Reading, Group Improv and Readers Theatre qualified from the district contest and are performing today. Senior Randa Linberg is performing in two categories, including Group Improv and Readers Theatre. She talks about her reaction when she found out that she had qualified for a second consecutive year for state in Readers Theatre.
“I was really excited because I enjoy speech. Last year was my first year doing it and that Readers Theatre group made it to state as well (and) now two years in a row. And it’s kind of the same group of people, but not really. Some graduated and some others joined, but there’s still a few that’s the same people. So it’s kind of fun to do it again with some of the same people.”
As for Paton-Churdan, Speech Coach Amanda Tasler says Choral Reading advanced to the state contest and is performing today. Both speech teams are at Waukee High School. The list of the entries that are nominated by the room judges to perform at the All-State Festival will be released Monday late afternoon by IHSSA.
