The big NFL championship game is tomorrow, and the safety of Iowans on the road is at the forefront of the minds of law enforcement.

Iowa State Patrol District 4 Resource Officer Trooper Shelby McCreedy says that Superbowl weekend is basically an unofficial holiday, and is especially so for the Midwest when the Kansas City Chiefs play. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that this weekend there is a Specialized Traffic Enforcement Program, or STEP initiative, and shares what that entails.

“Meaning essentially that law enforcement is going to be out in full force with additional resources, patrolling the roadways, ensuring that everybody is practicing safe driving behaviors all weekend long.”

McCreedy mentions that since there will be many celebrating this weekend, she shares the same advice as she does for New Years Eve: “If you don’t have to go out anywhere, don’t.”
