Carter Morton of Jefferson, a fifth year senior at the U. of Northern Iowa, ranks sixth in NCAA Division 1 track & field in the heptathlon following a personal best performance  of 5,807 points Friday and Saturday indoors at the U. of Nebraska in Lincoln. Morton placed third among 14 athletes in the seven event heptathlon, won by 2024 Paris Olympian in the decathlon from Germany, Till Steinforth, who set a new facility record.

Morton placed first in the high jump with a season best leap of 6′ 9-1/2″. He placed second in the long jump at 23′ 4-1/2″, second in the 1,000 meter run in a personal best time of 2:46.27, third in the pole vault at 15′ 7″, fifth in the 60 meter hurdles in 8.34 seconds, which was a season best, sixth in the 0 meter dash in :07.08, and eighth in the shot put at 41′ 1″.

Carter is the son of Chad and Deb Morton of Jefferson. He’s a 2020 Greene County High School graduate.
