An Iowa House Representative shares his thoughts after Governor Kim Reynolds gave testimony at the US House Government Efficiency hearing.
Representative for District 23 Ray Sorensen says that he believes that the governor summarized what Iowa has done in streamlining the government and making it run more efficiently pretty well. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio how he stands behind her on decisions relating to government efficiency.
“She’s constantly shown strong leadership and making Iowa a model for efficiency and fiscal responsibility. Her testimony reflects the successes we’ve had in streamlining government and cutting unnecessary regulations, and basically just ensuring taxpayer dollars are spent wisely, and I continue to support her efforts to advocate the common sense reforms at the federal level, just like we have done and we continue to do here in this state.
Sorensen mentions that in her testimony, the governor highlighted that Iowa reduced cabinet level agencies from 37 to 16, eliminated 600 vacant positions, and removed 1,200 regulations in the first year of the government restructuring. He adds that those actions saved the state $217 million over 18 months, which surpassed the initial projections of what would be saved.
