The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office released a statement regarding a series of vehicle burglaries and thefts.

According to the sheriff’s office, the reports all came from Diamondhead Lake, detailing stolen wallets, cash and debit/credit cards from residents of the lake. Video evidence was provided by one of the victims, and a fingerprint was lifted from one of the vehicles. It was later discovered that one of the stolen credit cards was used for purchases at a Wal-Mart and Lowes in West Des Moines. Video security footage was provided by those stores showing the same individuals and vehicle seen in the video from the Diamondhead Lake resident.

The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office requested the assistance of the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, and license plate readers in Dallas County confirmed the registered owner of the car belonging to a Kansas resident. The owner was contacted, and his son and son’s girlfriend had taken the car about 30 days ago and he hadn’t seen them since. Using the videos from Lowes and Wal-Mart, the suspect was found in the Kansas driver’s license system and is 100 percent identified.

The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office warns that it is believed that the suspect(s) are out of the area, and continuing their crime spree in the same manner. They also advise individuals to lock their vehicles, and to not leave anything valuable in them overnight. Criminal charges are pending with the completion of the investigation. Raccoon Valley Radio will have more information as it becomes official.
