A student from Perry High School was recently given monetary assistance to pursue her dreams in the culinary industry.
Senior Mylah Meis is the recipient of the $10,000 Crossroads Farm-To-Table Scholarship from the Crossroads Community Farm. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that she was notified via email on January 27th, and was extremely excited. Meis reveals that her love for cooking came from being around her family in the kitchen, especially her father, and that she spent lots of time in cook books during the pandemic in 2020. She knows that the family support system is huge, but is truly astonished that other people have been so gracious towards her.
“It’s crazy to me just the support that people are giving me already, and that they obviously see something in me that I can hopefully expand on in the future. So I’m very excited and I feel very fortunate. I think just knowing that people already see something in me helps give me confidence for the future and helps me believe in myself a little bit more, seeing that I can really go far.”
Meis is attending Madison Area Technical College in Madison, Wisconsin, and the scholarship covers two years of tuition for its culinary arts associates degree program. She is feeling a bit nervous to go to college out of state, but mostly joyful to get her start in the culinary arts. Meis will begin at Madison Area Technical College in the fall, following graduation this spring.
