Several reports of stolen property are suddenly on the rise near the Perry community, and the Perry Police Department is sharing safety tips to prevent these incidents from happening.

The department is stressing to the public to lock their vehicles following a recent string of burglaries in the area. Officers are reporting that a majority of thefts are from vehicles that are unlocked, and it appears that it is from people traveling along Highway 141, with a confirmed incident in Perry.

In order to avoid stolen property, the department is requesting that residents always lock their vehicles regardless of how little time they might be away from it, not to leave any wallets, electronic devices, and other visible valuables inside a vehicle, but to put them in the trunk or take them inside a home, and to try to park in well-lit areas with heavier traffic around. The department advises that by putting these into practice, it can help reduce the chances of burglaries in the community.

The Perry Police Department emphasizes for people to contact their office at (515)-465-4636, if there’s any suspicious activity.
