The high school wrestling dual meet and regular seasons end tonight in Jefferson for the Greene County Rams. Coach Kirk Davis’ team hosts three others in non-conference action at the high school starting at 5:30 p.m. AGWSR (Ackley), Webster City, and Woodward-Granger are the teams that will be visiting the Rams.
Greene County is 8-7 in dual meets, AGWSR is 6-10, Webster City 8-14, and W-G 13-5. The Rams need two victories to clinch a winning dual meet season. Forfeits have hurt the Rams all season although the team has won far more often than they’ve lost when it comes to contested matches.
Senior Brent Dennhardt will be recognized for collecting his 100th career victory earlier this month and he enters tonight with a 100-15 career record. Earlier this season, senior Gavyn Winters picked up career win 100 and he now has a 126-42 career mark. Those two, plus Crew Conner and Marcus Ball, are scheduled to wrestle in front of the home crowd for the final time in their careers.
After tonight, all that’s left is the postseason. The Rams go to Humboldt on Saturday for a Class 2A District tournament and qualifiers from Humboldt will wrestle at the State Tournament in Des Moines Feb. 19-22. All three Raccoon Valley Radio stations will again this year provide extensive play-by-play of all area State Wrestling Tournament qualifiers all four days in Des Moines.
