The Guthrie Center City Council met in regular session Monday night.

The Council heard from Guthrie County Sheriff Matt Harmann, who introduced himself to them and let them know if they had questions or concerns to contact him when necessary. They then approved the first reading of an ordinance adjusting speed limits on School and Bluff Streets, and set the second reading for February 24th at the next regular Council meeting.

The Council then approved to have City Clerk Kris Arrasmith and Street Superintendent Darin Sloss proceed with the Iowa Department of Transportation permitting process for some digital speed limit signs. Arrasmith shared that Sloss had reached out to the DOT about the digital speed limit signs that the Council discussed in their previous meeting, and said that the DOT will be sending a representative to determine where those signs should be placed. Once that is done the City could obtain the signs through the permitting process at no additional cost to the City.

The Council also heard from Arrasmith that Sloss had also gone through his final round of tree removal for the dangerous/dead trees in the City, and that there were two evergreens near the mausoleum that would need to be trimmed as they were encroaching on some headstones. She also shared in her report a review of items the auditor covers in his recent review, along with asking that the Council consider having a financial advisor come to a meeting to discuss services that could be provided, as many of the nearby communities use financial advisors.

The Council entered a closed session, and after exiting the closed session, approved to have Compliance Officer Wes Clark and City Attorney Dave Bruner proceed with legal action as discussed.
