The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Tuesday morning.
The Board started the meeting with a review of the draft of the surveying permit ordinance, discussing how it was written in a similar style to the one used by Bremer County. Supervisors Mike Dickson asked that some revisions be made before they begin the process of going through the required readings of the ordinance. Supervisor Brian Johnson mentioned he thought that they should slow down on getting the ordinance approved and adopted, as he wanted to avoid joining Bremer County in Summit Carbon Solutions lawsuit in federal court, to which Dickson replied that the reason the surveying permit ordinance was what they were looking at is because federal court holds no jurisdiction over surveying ordinances.
The Council approved to have Dickson continue working with Ahlers and Cooney Representative Tim Whipple to make adjustments to the draft, then start the ordinance process. They also approved construction plans for a pavement and grading project on P48 from Dexter to Interstate 80, before hearing fiscal year 2026 budget presentations from Veteran Affairs and General Relief Coordinator Beth Watson, Facilities Manager Brandon Thompson and Health Services Director Jotham Arber.
