In Monday night’s Stuart City Council meeting, the Council approved a contract for the Stuart Police Department to get some new equipment.

Stuart Police Chief Dave Reha presented three options for body and in-car cameras for the department, and the Council approved the third option, which goes through Axon. He adds that as an added bonus to this option, Axon will also be providing tasers at a discounted price for the department. Reha tells Raccoon Valley Radio why this was important.

“This will allow us to not only upgrade our tasers, but also upgrade our cameras and our in-car cameras, kind of all at the same time for a limited cost.”

Reha mentions that per the contract, the department will receive body cameras, in-car cameras which Axon will install for them, and tasers along with the batteries and cartridges needed for their use. He adds that two and a half years into the five year contract, the body cameras and tasers will be updated, and at the end of the contract, all cameras and tasers will be updated once again.
