The girls wrestling season comes to a close as the girls state wrestling tournament concluded last week on Friday. Willow Ray at 130 becomes the first girls state wrestling qualifier in West Central Valley history.
Willow Ray enter the state tournament with a record of 39-5 and battled hard but would not reach the podium this year. Ray would lose her first match, win her first consolation match, then fall in her third match taking her out of the tournament. Willow shared her love for the sport encouraging other girls to try out for wrestling, “Never be afraid to ask for help because there is always going to be someone open to helping you and being there for you. I love helping the younger girls at West Central Valley. It’s really fun.”
Willow, a sophomore this year, still has two more years of growth representing the West Central Valley Wildcats girls wrestling team as she becomes the first Wildcat girls wrestler to qualify for state.
