District 12 Senator Amy Sinclair
Last week a bill moved through the Senate regarding fireworks.
Senator for District 12 Amy Sinclair says that Senate Study Bill 1104 states that local leaders cannot ban fireworks on July 3rd, 4th and December 31st. She says that residents should be able to celebrate their country for Independence Day, and celebrate the end of the year. Sinclair tells Raccoon Valley Radio that there is an exception for burn bans.
“Anytime we’re talking about public safety, I think that that should absolutely be an exception. We’ve watched here this fall the wildfires out in California, the devastation that’s happened there. Of course, local governments, emergency management coordinators and fire departments should be able to regulate a fire hazard if there’s such a time that a fire hazard is in existence. Nobody wants their property to go up in flames because somebody else decided to shoot off fireworks when it wasn’t safe to do so.”
Sinclair mentions that she isn’t aware of a companion bill in the House, but hopes that the bill will pass in both chambers.
