February 15th through the 22nd is National FFA Week and the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Chapter is celebrating it with fun activities.

According to ADM FFA member Eliza Schmidt, this week is to recognize the importance that farming has in the world. Schmidt shares that she, along with six other students, were able to attend the 40th Annual Legislative Symposium at the Iowa Capitol in Des Moines on January 22nd, where they spoke with local lawmakers about advocating for agriculture in the classroom. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio the aspect she enjoys the most about being in FFA.

“I’ve been exposed to a lot of opportunities as well as the community. I’ve gotten to participate in a lot of contests that I wouldn’t have otherwise, and I’ve always made a lot of strong relationships throughout the agricultural community that I know will help me in my future.”

Schmidt details that this past Monday, members indulged in a pie eating contest, Tuesday was a scavenger hunt to search for the three little piggies to be rewarded, Wednesday was a Count the Kernels Contest, Thursday is Staff Appreciation where FFA members made breakfast, and Friday, ADM FFA Alumni are hosting a truck show.
