With some cuts to Veterans Affairs on the federal level, some may be concerned about their local level of support as well.
Guthrie County VA Coordinator Beth Watson tells Racoon Valley Radio that at this time, residents shouldn’t need to worry about the assistance they receive locally.
“So at this moment on the federal level, (the) state of Iowa is not gonna have an immediate impact with the VA. So I’m hoping it’ll hold in that lane for a while. I’m hoping they agree, they like what they see.”
Watson mentions that the cuts appear to be personnel related in the benefits area. She adds that at this time, what seems to have happened is roughly 1,000 workers in that benefits area that have the least seniority, so the newest hires, are being let go.
