
Friday is semifinal day at the Iowa High School State Wrestling Tournament in Des Moines at Wells Fargo Arena. There are also two more consolation rounds, and after today the top eight place winners in each weight class will be known. The order of finish will be determined on Saturday, culminating with the finals on Saturday night.
On Thursday, the listening area had two Class 1A wrestlers, one in 3A, and four in 2A win quarterfinals matches and advance to the semifinals. Class 3A wrestles at 9 a.m. today, with 1A at 1:30 p.m. and 2A at 6 p.m.
2024 State Champion Ashton Honnold of Nodaway Valley and Trenton Warner, of of Nodaway Valley will be in this afternoon’s 1A semifinals. Honnold is unbeaten and top ranked at 215 lbs. while Warner is the top seed at 285. Both have a pair of falls in the two matches they’ve had at State so far.
Waukee Northwest had a 3A semifinalist in Henry Mohr at 285. He is the lone area semifinalist in the large school class and is the four seed in his weight class.
In 2A, Greene County’s duo of senior Brent Dennhardt and sophomore Degan Miller both advanced to the semi’s, as did Van Meter freshman Dylan Williamson, as well as Winterset senior Jadyn Cooper. Dennhardt is the eight seed, while Miller is seeded sixth, Williamson fifth, and Cooper is the top seed.
