A man from Texas was arrested on Wednesday for an alleged theft incident in Greene County.
According to court documents, on February 19th, a Jefferson Police Officer was investigating a theft from a business, where a male was seen on video surveillance to have allegedly taken a bottle of liquor and left without paying for it. The officer saw the male from the footage wearing dark clothes and was wearing boots. Court documents show that the same male came back to the business later in the day, but left before the officer arrived.
The criminal complaint states that the officer reviewed additional video footage and pictures, and was able to identify a vehicle the male was driving. Court documents show that a Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy found the vehicle at a residence in Churdan. The officer entered the home with the deputy and observed the male wearing matching clothes from the footage. After the officer arrested 45-year-old Earnest Cobbs of Dallas Texas, it was also discovered that the vehicle was reported stolen from Webster County, as well as the bottle of liquor that matched what was stolen from the business.
Cobbs was charged with a Class C Felony for first degree theft of the vehicle and two simple misdemeanors for fifth degree theft and no valid driver’s license. Cobbs was booked into the Greene County Jail. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
