A house in Bouton caught fire Friday night.

Perry Fire Chief Grason Hill says that they received a call from dispatch shortly after 9pm, and arrived on scene to assist. He explains that the building was a prefabricated home with a crawl space underneath it, and that there was also a metal skirt around the crawl space to keep wind out. Hill mentions that the family had a barn heater underneath the home in the crawl space to keep the water lines from freezing, and that at this time it is believed that the fire started near the heater, which was the northwest corner of the building.

Hill shares that the fire started in the floor of the home, and it was tough getting to it as they had to pry the metal skirt off the building to be able to see underneath. He continues that once they finally were able to get to the fire under the house and start attempting to put it out, the flames had traveled up the walls, and multiple vents and holes had to be cut in the building to allow access to fight the fire. Hill says that the home is a total loss. Bouton Fire Department was first on the scene, and was assisted by Perry and Minburn Fire Departments. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring more information as it becomes official.
