The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Girls Basketball team had to play two extra periods to get past Gilbert in the second round of the postseason on Saturday.

ADM beat Gilbert for the first time this season in double overtime by a final score of 65-58. Gilbert previously defeated ADM 54-47 and 53-47 in both conference games this year, but the Tigers were able to flip the script after an exciting game.

The first quarter was back and forth as ADM led 12-11 after one. In the second quarter, the game remained close with ADM taking a slight 22-19 advantage into the halftime locker room. Each team scored 12 points in the third quarter with ADM clinging to a 34-31 lead heading into the fourth. In the final frame, Gilbert would outscore ADM 11-8, and held a 42-40 lead with 27 seconds left, before sophomore Alexis Maxwell got a late layup to tie the game at 42 to send it into overtime.

The first OT period saw the teams combine for 10 points, as once again ADM was down 47-45 with 20 seconds remaining. Sophomore Emma Worley put up a potential game-leading three pointer, which didn’t fall, but was rebounded by senior Kelli Storck to notch the game at 47-47 all, eventually getting to a second OT. ADM would go on to score 18 points in the second OT, thanks to late free throws from Maxwell to seal the deal, 65-58.

Maxwell led the way for ADM with 17 points, followed by Storck with 13, and Worley’s nine. Gilbert was charged by sophomore Callie Hales, who had a game-high of 23 points, then it was senior Abby Patel with 16, and senior Ella Henningsen with seven points.

Gilbert’s season ends at 13-9, while ADM improves to 15-9 and sets up a third meeting with North Polk on Tuesday at 7pm in the regional final for a trip to state.
