
Wrestlers from the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area went five for five in title matches on Saturday night at the Iowa high school State Wrestling Championships in Des Moines. Newly crowned State Champions in Class 2A are freshman Dylan Williamson (106 lbs.) of Van Meter, senior Brent Dennhardt (157) of Greene County, and senior Jadyn Cooper of Winterset at 285. The Nodaway Valley pair of junior Ashton Honnold at 215 lbs. and senior Trenton Warner at 285 won 1A titles.
Williamson became the Van Meter wrestling program’s first State Champion. He downed Eddyville-Blakessburg-Fremont’s Slater Thomas 4-1. Dennhardt won 4-2 over fellow Heart of Iowa Activities Conference wrestler Tucker Wheeler of PCM (Monroe). Cooper won by fall in 55 seconds over PCM’s Kaden Clark. Honnold was a 7-0 shut out winner vs. Nathan Beitz of Maquoketa Valley (Delhi) and Warner capped the evening with a 13-5 major decision over Wyatt Hanna of Lake Mills.
NV was ninth in the team standings in 1A with Winterset 13th, Greene County 18th,, and VM 27th in 2A. Waukee Northwest did not have a finalist, but the Wolves had the highest finish among area teams by placing sixth in 3A.
