The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Girls Basketball team competed in the Class 4A Region 2 Championship game on Tuesday.
ADM fought hard, but ultimately fell to North Polk by a final score 54-33. In the first quarter, both teams were working through the nerves as great defense was being played and not too much on the offensive side, as the Comets led 11-7. However, North Polk turned on the engines in the second quarter, scoring 16 points to eventually take a double digit advantage of 27-14 at the halftime break.
North Polk would score the first four points of the third quarter to go up by 17 points, before ADM made a 15-6 run to cut the deficit to eight, trailing 37-29 heading into the fourth quarter. The Comets replicated their play from the second quarter and outscored the Tigers 17-4 to pull away to a 54-33 final.
North Polk had three players in double figures with sophomore Campbell Schulz’s 12, then it was senior Becca Aagard with 11 points, and senior Abby Tuttle contributing with 10 points. On ADM’s side, they were charged by senior Kelli Storck with 11 points, followed by senior Aniston Tollari, who had six, and sophomore Alexis Maxwell with five points.
The Comets get to 22-2 on the season as they punch their ticket into the state tournament for the third straight year. The Tigers end the season with a record of 15-10, but they won eight more games than last year in the debut year of Head Coach Danielle Craig.
The Tigers say goodbye to their two seniors, Aniston Tollari and Kelli Storck.
