There is a bill that has garnered opposition from many groups over the last week.
House Representative for District 23 Ray Sorensen says that House Study Bill 158 would make taking children to sexually explicit drag shows a Class D Felony. He shares his thoughts on the bill.
“I’m a strong believer in parental rights, but I also think we have a duty to protect kids from age-inappropriate content. House Study Bill 158 seems to target concerns about exposing children to performances that you could view as sexually explicit. The worry I have is making sure the bill’s language is absolutely clear and focusing on explicit acts and not just drag shows broadly.”
Sorensen mentions that while he gets wanting to keep children from being shown sexually explicit materials, he also doesn’t want any government overreach to be present either, as there are many shows that aren’t explicit as well.
