A student from Adel-DeSoto-Minburn High School recently participated in a district competition, where she was selected to be apart of a team representing central Iowa.

According to ADM FFA Advisor McKenzie Gettler, junior Eliza Schmidt made an appearance at Murray High School this past Saturday for the Iowa FFA Association District Contest. Schmidt competed in the Ag Radio Broadcasting category, and Gettler says that she did not advance to the state competition, but was elected as the 2025-26 South Central District Sentinel. Schmidt, who grew up raising cattle, describes how much agriculture means to her.

“Farming has always been a big part of my life, and I’ve always felt a strong connection to it as I know the world really runs on farmers.”

Gettler mentions that Schmidt was voted for the office, which was followed by her delivering a speech to the delegates, and then was selected. ADM FFA President Kelsey Greenslade and Vice President Payton Taylor were speakers at the District Contest at Murray High School.
