A local figure in the Perry community is being honored for the hard work displayed throughout the 2024 year.

According to the Perry Rotary Club, Perry Volunteer Fire Chief Grason Hill was selected as the 2024 Civil Servant of the Year. A press release states that people highlighted the dedication that Hill shows by fighting fires, helping on accident scenes, and ultimately saving lives. Hill tells Raccoon Valley Radio that he’s extremely grateful for the recognition.

“It is just overwhelming to me that I received that. And I just can’t thank the people from Perry and surrounding communities who have always been supportive of me. And (I) appreciate the job that I have been doing, and it just makes me feel so good. So I just can’t thank everyone enough about it, so I really do appreciate it very much.”

Hill shares that he’s been with the volunteer fire department for 32 years and spent the past year as the Fire Chief. He notes that a focal point for him was to improve the morality within the department and that he truly loves working with the employees, emphasizing that it’s a family atmosphere.
