An organization in the Perry community is inviting people looking for a new home out to an event on Saturday.
According to Community Partnership Coordinator Lindsey Rawson Van Wyk, Dallas County Habitat for Humanity is hosting an open house on three available units located in Perry. She outlines that the homes are open to people through the organization’s affordable mortgage program, which means the mortgage is capped at 30 percent of a person’s income with the interest rate being much lower than the competitive market rate. Van Wyk reveals that the three homes are at 780 Graceland Avenue, 1802 Dewey Avenue, and 1823 Lucinda Street. She pinpoints that people are welcome to stop by any of the units during the open house.
“You don’t need to make an appointment, and you can visit all three (homes) or just the one you’re most interested in, but we encourage you to check them all out, because they’re all gorgeous and exciting new opportunities. And then they’ll be a habitat representative at each home to answer questions, talk about eligibility and if you’re potentially interested to even go ahead and schedule you an appointment with our financial counseling team. So really just an opportunity to invite the community in to see these homes, try to find the right candidates for them, (and) we would love to see everybody out.”
Van Wyk emphasizes that in order to be eligible for a habitat home, people will need to show they have a year of steady employment as well as earn a certain income floor. The Open House will be held from 10am-4pm on Saturday. For more information, contact the Dallas County Habitat for Humanity at (515)-373-1844.
