The Greene County High School Music Department is having its annual Pops Concert tomorrow night.
The performances will feature the jazz and concert bands, along with the jazz and concert choirs. Vocal Director Dave Heupel tells Raccoon Valley Radio the jazz choir, Ram Jive, will be doing their contest show pieces prior to the Iowa Vocal Jazz Championships on April 1st. He says the concert choir will be singing a few songs from the musical and now movie, “Wicked,” which is about how the Wicked Witch in the “Wizard of Oz” came to be. Heupel talks about how the rehearsals with the concert choir have been fun, thanks to the music he found for the kids.
“A lot of times when a movie, or a musical, or something comes out and it’s pretty popular the publishing companies are trying to get music out as quickly as possible so they can sell it, and a lot of times those arrangements are pretty weak. There was some pretty good arrangements for this, so I was glad to find that. It’s easy for the kids to say, ‘Hey, we want to do this…’ but is there a good arrangement out there for it is always the next question. So I was glad there was some good music for it.”
The Pops Concert begins at 7:30pm at the high school auditorium.
