The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Boys Basketball team began their run for a state title on Monday, advancing to the second round after an opening victory.
ADM beat Storm Lake 59-53 in the Class 3A Quarterfinal game at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. In the first quarter, the Tornadoes got out to a quick 8-2 lead, but the Tigers closed the gap and trailed 12-11 going into the second. Period two consisted of 14 points scored by each team as Storm Lake held a 26-25 advantage going into the halftime locker room.
The difference maker for ADM was in the third quarter, as they outscored the Tornadoes 17-8 to lead 42-34 heading into the fourth. In the final frame, Storm Lake would get within four points, but key three pointers from Tiger junior Hudson Shull and senior Wyatt Schweiger, then clutch free throws from junior Trey Bryte secured the 59-53 win for ADM.
It was well-balanced scoring for the Tigers as Shull and Bryte each tallied 13 points, followed by junior Hudson Lorensen and senior Cade Fisher with 12 points a piece, and Schweiger finished with nine. For the Tornadoes, junior Jaidyn Coon led the way with 16 points, then it was sophomore Timothy Yanga with 10 points, and sophomore Trey Boettcher with eight.
Storm Lake’s season comes to an end with a 22-2 record, as ADM improves to 22-4 on the year and sets up a rematch with the number one seeded Clear Lake Lions on Thursday at 10:30am at Wells Fargo Arena.
