With the weather getting nicer outside, some people have been out riding on their all-terrian vehicles, but one law enforcement officer has some reminders of where those types of activities should not be taking place.

Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer for Greene County Aron Arthur says there has been evidence of ATVs driving off road in the county parks in Greene County, which is illegal to do so at any time.

“We did have somebody get into Squirrel Hollow, which Squirrel Hollow is essentially closed off except for one little portion. We had someone drive through there, and drive over one of the posts stopping people from getting in there, and then they tore up part of the park, and then they got stuck in the park in the mud.”

Arthur explains one of the main reasons why operating ATVs through areas of a park that are not designated to do so, especially right now.

“This time of year, the ground is soft because we just had all the frost is still coming out. They usually like to wait for them to dry out, and that frost comes out and let it dry up a little bit so the parks aren’t damaged.”

Arthur advises all ATV operators to remain on the designated paths and follow all of the laws that they are supposed to follow. He adds if someone sees someone else driving an ATV where they are not supposed to in a county park to notify the Greene County Conservation Board or himself.
