A Stuart man was recently arrested on March 12th for allegedly possessing a firearm by a felon.

According to court documents, Todd Jackson, 53, was arrested following the execution of a search warrant by the Stuart Police Department and Cass County Sheriff’s Office. Court documents state that the warrant was obtained through investigative efforts that the Cass County Sheriff’s Office conducted regarding multiple firearms and the sales of firearms.

The criminal complaint states that after entering Jackson’s residence in Stuart, police noted the strong scent of burnt marijuana, and observed drug-related items throughout the residence. The affidavit noted that while searching the apartment, law enforcement recovered a loaded shotgun with a sawed off barrel, 10 rifles and a pistol, with the pistol having the serial number altered to hide the real number. Other items discovered included live ammunition, multiple firearm magazines, two stun guns, 19 white pills in a plastic bag that was later identified as Alprazolam, which is a schedule four controlled substance and available only by prescription. Officers also located a large glass marijuana smoking device, two jars containing a green leafy substance later identified as marijuana, and multiple other drug paraphernalia.

Court documents show that during an interview conducted by the Stuart Police Department, Jackson admitted to possessing the firearms, having collected them over time, and also admitted to trading methamphetamine and, marijuana, along with $200 for two of the firearms. Jackson was charged with 14 Class D Felonies for felon in possession of a firearm, and two serious misdemeanors for his second offense for possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of prescription drugs. After Jackson was in custody, he was then transported and booked in at the Adair County Jail. Raccoon Valley Radio will have more information as it becomes official.
