The leader of activities at Adel-DeSoto-Minburn High School reflects on the amazing first season of a winter sport.

ADM Activities Director Rod Wiebers highlights that it was a magical inaugural season for the sport of bowling. He shares that after having a great partnership with the Waukee School District for the past number of years, enough students from ADM showed interest in the sport to develop their own teams. Wiebers is grateful to Adel Family Fun Center Owner Bryce Smith, who let the players use the space to practice for their debut season. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio it was incredible to witness a new program in the beginning stages.

“It was such a fun year for that group. For me, the first meet that we had at the Adel Family Fun Center was just such an exhilarating deal, just seeing a program get started and seeing the kids compete in something that they haven’t competed in before.”

Wiebers is extremely proud of the coaches of the boys and girls teams, Sarah Boesen and Jason Kilker for their dedication to the program. Freshman Alabama Astley qualified to the state tournament, placing 31st in Class 2A, while junior Cole Darling also advanced to state, where he won the Individual Championship for Class 2A. Wiebers believes the future is looking bright.
